Christmas Cocoa Cappuccino
(2 servings)
- 1/2 cup prepared espresso (or very strong coffee)
-
3 Tablespoons chocolate syrup (like Hershey's)
-
1/3 cup milk
-
1/4 cup eggnog
-
grated nutmeg or crushed candy cane - for optional garnish
I got a new coffee maker recently (the Ninja Coffee Bar) and wanted to put it to the test with some specialty coffee drinks. This is a combination of a couple seasonal coffee drinks. It's the Eggnog Latte meets the Mocha Cappuccino. And it's ding dong delicious... as in "ding, dong, the Christmas bells are ringing." It's also easy to make and easy on the eyes... if you use my simple steps for making layers in a glass mug. (This recipe was developed, tested and photographed in December 2015.)
How To Make A Christmas Cocoa Cappuccino
Stir the chocolate syrup into the espresso.
Combine the milk and eggnog and froth using steam frother or by placing it in a sealed Mason jar and shaking until doubled in volume (then microwave with the lid removed for 30 seconds so it's warm).
For a simple presentation: Pour the chocolate-infused espresso into a mug and then top with the frothed milk.
To get a layered effect in a glass mug: Pour frothed milk (plus the milk that didn't froth) into the glass mug until the mug is 2/3 full. Slowly pour the chocolate-infused espresso into the the center of the froth. To assure a slow steady stream, try pouring the coffee over the back of a spoon resting just above the froth. Like magic, the coffee will layer itself between the milk that didn't froth and the froth. Use a knife or toothpick to swirl the froth and the top of the drink will look magical too.
If desired, garnish the top with freshly grated nutmeg or crushed candy cane.
Makes 1 very large serving or 2 reasonable servings.
Recipe Notes:
When frothing, don't overdo it. You want about 1/2 warm milk and 1/2 froth.
The reason that there's a little more milk than eggnog is because the eggnog doesn't froth up as easy as milk.
For Ninja Coffee Bar users, make the espresso using the travel mug and specially brew settings with 4 single-serve scoops of coffee.
Many holiday flavors in one warm, beautiful coffee drink: eggnog, cocoa and, if desired, a sprinkling of crushed peppermint candy cane or freshly grated nutmeg to top it off.
