Quick and Easy Apple Dumplings

(8 servings)

  • 2 medium apples
  • 1 8-count package refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • ground cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3/4 to 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup no pulp orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup pecans - finely chopped
I recommend using McIntosh, Cortland or Granny Smith apples for this recipe. And if available, try to use low-fat crescent roll dough.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease an 8-inch square glass baking dish.

Peel, core and quarter apples. Unroll and separate crescent roll dough. Wrap each apple quarter in a crescent roll and place in baking dish.

Combine butter, sugar and orange juice in medium saucepan. Bring to a boil, being careful to not let it boil over. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Pour over dumplings. Sprinkle tops with cinnamon and pecans.

Bake 25 to 30 minutes, until crust is golden and apples are fork-tender.

Serve warm, spooning some of the sauce over the dumplings. Great served alone, with cream or vanilla ice cream.

These are so simple to make. Kids can help with wrapping the apples in the dough and spooning the sauce over dumplings. Quick to prepare for breakfast in a snap.
