Gingerbread Latte

(2 servings)

  • 1 cup strong coffee
  • 2 teaspoons molasses
  • 1 Tablespoon pure maple syrup (or sugar)
  • 1 pinch ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • whipped cream - optional
Truth be told, the version of this drink they make at Starbucks is a little better than this homemade version. They use a signature gingerbread syrup that makes a terrific latte. You can purchase the syrup online, but if you want to use ingredients that you probably have handy... this tasty concoction is sure to satisfy. Do yourself a favor and use the optional whipped cream. Also, be very careful with the amount of ginger that you add. A little goes a long way. I ho-ho-hope you like this drink. (This recipe was developed, tested and photographed in December 2015.)

How To Make A Gingerbread Latte

In a small sauce pan over medium heat, combine all ingredients EXCEPT for the milk. Stir until molasses is dissolved and everything is well combined.

Place milk in a glass jar. Seal and shake ferociously until foamy. Remove lid and microwave for 30 seconds. (Or you could use a commercial frother.)

Pour milk into a serving glass, using a spoon to hold back the froth as you pour. Add the flavored coffee (for best results use a strainer). Spoon or pour froth over the top of the latte.

Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg.

For a big holiday effect, top with whipped cream and finely crushed pieces of actual gingerbread cookies.
