Easy Sausage Balls
(12 servings)
- 1 pound breakfast sausage
-
2 cups sharp Cheddar cheese
-
2 cups biscuit baking mix
-
2 Tablespoons finely chopped onion - optional
-
2 Tablespoons finely chopped green pepper - optional
These sausage balls really are easy to make. You basically throw all the ingredients in a bowl, mix, roll and bake. You'll want to get your hands dirty on this one. Mixing is far easier with your hands than with a spatula. Be careful not to roll your balls to big or you'll need to extend the cooking time. These balls taste best if you let them cool to just slightly above room temperature. For a real treat, consider making some Country-Style Pepper Gravy for dipping or to cover your balls. (This recipe was submitted in 2002. It was tested and I photographed my balls in August 2014.)
How To Make Easy Sausage Balls
In large bowl combine all ingredients. Roll into 1-inch balls and place on baking pan. (If needed, add a splash of milk to make balls easier to roll).
Bake at 350 degrees F for 7 to 10 minutes, until sausage is completely done.
Note From Mr Breakfast
For the balls you see here, I used Bisquick baking mix. I opted to use the optional onions and I used an Anaheim chili pepper instead of green pepper.
Great for a party snack or as a side with omelets, etc. If you like, try using spicy sausage and a chili pepper to make a Spicy Sausage Balls.
