I found this place (part of a small chain) while attending the World Pinball Championships in Carnegie, PA (August 2006). What a great surprise! The "Kings Country Breakfast" was 2 eggs, meat, potatoes, toast, AND a choice of pancakes or waffles. I'm a waffle lover who has been disappointed with the increasing eggofication of waffles in restaurants and grocery stores, but I decided to try the waffle anyway. Here's what I got:
--2 eggs, scrambled fluffy & solid
--about *six* slices of crisp bacon, as ordered
--good home fries, mostly crisp
--real whole wheat toast with a great flavor
--and a **full** Belgian waffle, cooked **perfectly**--brown and crisp on the outside, fluffy inside. I'd say this was easily the third best waffle I've ever had (#1 was in Belgium, believe it or not; #2 was in a hotel in Montreal where they no longer serve waffles), and there's a huge gap between #3 and #4 (which would be pretty much a tie among every other Belgian waffle I've had).
I'm not a coffee drinker, so I had iced tea, which was good but not great. The service was exemplary--even though it was crowded and I was by myself, the waitress was always there when I needed her.
And now maybe the best part. The price for this near-perfect breakfast: $5.79. Unbelievable!
This truly was among the best breakfasts I've ever had. You can bet that if I'm ever in the Pittsburgh area, I'll be back.
