The Hau Tree Lanai is such a great deal! It is about as old-style Waikiki as is possible. You eat outdoors, right next to Kaimana Beach and the ocean, and sit under a tangled hau tree arbor. It is somewhat removed from "downtown" Waikiki. This is what the Halekulani was like before it was tarted up, and became a place for rich people. Customers are a mixture of locals and tourists. The place is just run-down enough to be home-like and pleasant. Wait staff treats you like family. You don't feel like a food industry unit when you eat there. As for the food, portions are large, the quality varies from dish to dish. It is not expensive, a rare quality for a beachside restaurant in Waikiki.
