As a native Pennsylvanian, I have had my fair share of both excellent and not so pleasant servings of scrapple grace my breakfast plate. My mom was very interested in checking out the diner across the street, The Chi Restaurant because she had heard such rave comments about their breakfast selection. I agreed it was definitely worth checking out. So, 10 am on a Sunday morning, we drove over to the restaurant armed with hungry, grumbling stomachs.

Our noses were greeted with tantalizing aromas as soon as we walked through the single white painted wooden door! We waited only seconds for a smiling waitress to seat us at a cozy red booth. She asked for our drink orders, handed us menus, and promised to return promptly.

Glancing over the breakfast selection, my focus zoomed in on a beautiful slab of scrapple with 2 eggs and home fries ($3.25). The description for the scrapple read “scrapple made with pork, seasoned with onions, spices and herbs”. My mom decided to order the same when the waitress returned for our order.

As I anxiously anticipated my meal, I leaned back against the soft cushion of the booth. I reached out to touch the red brick painted wall which happened to be covered in old fashioned pictures and signs.

Seeming only like 5 minutes later, our steaming hot meals were placed in front of us, waiting to be devoured.

“That was so quick,” said my mom, “I felt like a blinked and then BAM! The meal appeared!”

I happily gazed at the food arrangement sitting in front of me. There was a deck of card sized slab of crispy scrapple balanced with its partner of golden yellow fried eggs. A side plate of toasted brown home fries completed the assembly.

“The center of the scrapple is so warm and creamy,” mom mumbled happily. “It’s definitely scrapple fit for a king!”

I nodded my agreement, while treating myself to another gracious portion of scrapple. The eggs were a wonderful balance to the scrapple and the home fries left me feeling both satisfied and full.

As the waitress came by to drop off our check, I thanked her for the amazing breakfast we had just had. I also asked her if the scrapple was home-made there or was it frozen.

“We make our scrapple fresh with our own seasons and spices,” Michelle the waitress replied. “I am so glad you enjoyed your meal and I hope to see you again soon.”

After tipping Michelle and paying our bill, we walked outside well prepared to face the world with full satisfied stomachs.

Overall, I give The Chi Restaurant a rating of 5/5 stars. The Chi Restaurant is a quant but cozy diner with value prices and quality food. The diner is child friendly and non-smoking. Friendly wait service paired with short wait time for orders makes for an optimal dining experience.
