This was the second time we tried this place for breakfast, the first time was forgettable, but the atmosphere was warm and quaint. Let's try it again, we said.
This time around there was really nothing wrong with our breakfast other than my "3-egg" omelet must have been made with quail eggs. Disappointed with that hype, I dug in and enjoyed the artichoke and cheese filling. The breakfast potatoes were nicely crisp, the whole wheat toast was outstanding, full of munchy seedy/grainy goodness that made it dense and chewy, while maintaining its moisture. And, happily, the toast was buttered while still hot. I am a sucker for that.
Hubby ordered the meatloaf lunch. The meatloaf was a generous serving, but not to his liking. He said there were too many ingredients (I think it was the bell pepper that got him). But I tasted it and found it was moist, not overly mushy with too much bread-crumbs, and it came with a huge mound of freshly whipped mashed potatoes (with skins) covered with a very tasty brown gravy. I liked it.
The waitress (Amanda) was cheerful, charming, attentive and kept the coffee flowing. Thanks ... You are a Really Good Waitress!
The biggest disappointment was the so-called bear claw from the bakery. Not good at all, nothing redeeming about it. It got chucked into the trash at home. I recall feeling the same about the bakery goods we purchased the first time around. Too bad. If you are looking for really good breakfast pastries and assorted bakery goods, you can do much better by trying Flour Fusion in Old Town Lake Elsinore, Simple Simon's in Downtown Riverside, Some Crust in Claremont, or even Muffin Tops in Riverside, all one-of-a-kind bakeries with great reputations.
A small patio for outside dining is available. Plenty of parking is located in a large parking lot immediately outside. Coffee was good.
