Well, knock my socks off. We've been avoiding this place for near 30 years due to it's sheer mediocrity in the past. But a grudge should not be forever, right? But a-ha, now I see, the name has changed. How did that get past me?

So, after seeing a reviewer rave on another site about magic bacon, we moseyed on by, only to discover it was closed down for clean up after ye old flood of December 2010. That's because it is down by that "internationally known" itty bitty Corona Airport, which is in the flood zone by Prado Dam. Nuf said. So that really got me going. A week later, voila, it was open for business, and the locals were starting to flow back in.

So here is what we ordered: a one-egg, sausage patty, potatoes and biscuit breakfast, for $5 something. Hubby ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. Then, hubby reminded me, oh yeah, I had come for the magic bacon (somehow grilled or broiled with sugar to draw out the smoky flavor). The waitress apparently was bemused at this befuddled, cute, older couple (i.e. us) and said, don't worry, I'll bring you a sample. Turns out, a sample was 3 pieces, and for no charge! Whatta sweetie. She got a big tip for that! I even let the old man have a piece, even though it WAS FOR ME. She also let us taste the chili...good. And, then they dropped off samples of their M&M brownies...wow, moist and chocolaty.

So, the meal came through with only one complaint, the chicken fried steak (not your traditional type, but still hand breaded and grilled) was too greasy, says he, and frankly, the breading made me think of cooked liver. But everything else was good. Eggs done right. The biscuits surprised me, as they was not homemade, but had a really good taste. And she brought me "real" butter, not that nasty margarine stuff. Even the coffee was decent. The sausage was great. The magic bacon, yes, I would return just for that.

This place is only open until 4:00 pm, and the menu is small/limited. The atmosphere is very "small town cafe". They also have a "specials" board..a blackboard that fills a full wall. The waitresses were charming and very grateful to be back at work after a long wait. Not expensive, relaxed to country music, clean, and ready to please.
