In the San Gabriel Valley, there are many, many Mexican restaurants and Mexican fast food joints that offer Red Menudo on their menus, but very seldom are they any good because too many of these places cut corners when it comes to quality. At last, I have found at least two places that serve very, very good Menudo and Beto's Grill is one of them.

Beto's Grill is a very small, but very friendly family Mexican restaurant that offers both Mexican and American breakfast entrees, in addition to their lunch and dinner menu items. Beto's Grill makes a very good Red Menudo and if you choose the complimentary CORN tortillas to go along with it, you will be pleasantly surprised to see them arrive at your table very hot and freshly-made! Their delicious Menudo's red broth is seasoned just right in flavor and neither greasy nor watery. In the broth is a generous portion of hominy and beef tripe (and, unfortunately, a bone or two...so beware!) QUESTION: I know that the pig's knuckle bones are supposed to add flavor to the Menudo, but why can't the bones be put into a cheesecloth pouch during the cooking process and then removed before serving?

PARKING: This place has a very tiny parking lot, but FREE street parking is also available. WARNING: Do NOT park in KFC's parking lot or your car will be towed!


NOTE: I gave this place a poor Coffee Refill Rating because the Sunday morning waitress often has to be reminded by the customer to refill one's cup. Even the final bill doesn't arrive in a timely manner. She's very nice, but she socializes too much with her fellow employees.



For future reference, Beto's Grill also has a second location on Temple City Blvd in Temple City, California.
