Natto (Japan)
(2 servings) Printable Version
- 1 cup rice
- 2 packages natto soybeans
- 2 packets Japanese mustard
- 2 packets Tare (Japanese sauce)
Open the natto package and mix in the mustard and tare sauce (you could use soy sauce if you can't find the Tare).
Pour natto over bowl of rice and enjoy.
Natto are steamed, fermented and mashed soybeans and it has a strong cheese-like flavor. In Japan, it's often served over rice as a breakfast dish. It is also used as a condiment during other meals.

I normally heat the natto for 20 seconds in the microwave, stir it vigorously for at least 30 times, then mix it with steaming rice, soy sauce, chilli oil & chopped spring onions. Then topped with pickled ginger. Yum.

From miffy
I normally add Nori (seaweed crisps) raw eggs, or poached egg and nameko (mushrooms) to this.
