Ham & Cheese Stuffed French Toast

- 8 (1 and 1/2-inch) slices French bread
- 8 (3/4-ounce each) slices American Cheese - cut in half
- 4 ounces sliced deli ham
- 3 large eggs - beaten
- 1/3 cup milk
- 3 Tablespoons butter
- powdered sugar
- maple syrup
Combine eggs and milk in medium bowl; beat well. Pour into pie pan. Dip both sides of stuffed bread in egg mixture.
Melt butter in 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat until sizzling; place bread slices in skillet. Cook, turning once, until bread is lightly browned (4 to 8 minutes). Sprinkle toast with powdered sugar; serve with syrup.

We made this many times, except we use two slices of white bread and make sandwiches before frying both sides. It's also better to use Cheddar or Swiss cheese. And instead of syrup, slowly melt a handful of shredded Cheddar with a 1/4 cup milk to make a cheese sauce. Very good that way.
