Bunuelos (Christmas)

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 3 Tablespoons milk
- 1/4 cup fine baker's sugar or powdered sugar - optional for topping
Combine egg and milk and beat until frothy.
Mix dry and liquid ingredients together. Cover and allow to rest for 10 minutes.
Drop by spoonfuls into hot fat to deep fry until golden.
Drain well and serve immediately. If desired, toss the hot Bunuelos in a paper bag filled with fine bakers sugar or powdered sugar and serve!
Bunuelos are round, crispy fritters drizzled with fruit or honey syrup and served especially on Christmas morning.

Beg your pardon these are not buņelos, these are fried dough sprinkled with sugar. Buņelos are made from casaba dough and shaped in 's' form and fried stove top, then drizzled with an anise tote infused sugar syrup.
