When this cereal debuted in the early 70's, it was distributed by Colgate-Palmolive, the toothpaste company. It's described on the box as a "naturally delicious muesli cereal... made with organic grains."
A television commercial from the early 70's described it like this:
"In Switzerland, people respect the land and the natural things it provides, good things. Alpen is taken from an old Swiss recipe. Alpen is a natural breakfast cereal. It's almonds and hazelnuts chopped fine and mixed with wheat, oat flakes and sun-dried raisins. Alpen is good things from the good earth, pure and simple... Alpen."

I don't know why Colgate first owned Alpen... it looked like the kids who ate it needed to go brush afterward. HA-HA-HA.
