I like to include butter in the syrup so I don't need to use extra butter on pancakes as it is already in the syrup ready to pour hot! It is even better if pancakes is not hot enough to melt butter well.

Sure jumped in there and filled the gap. I use syrup on bottom of large pot for custard. Ran out and was so glad to find this to fill the maple syrup gap. Next time I'll use some maple flavoring also... thanks a bunch. Love it.

Wonderful recipe from Rosie! For those who might like a thicker syrup, reduce heat to medium once mixture comes to a boil and let simmer for a minute or so. I also add a teaspoon of vanilla.

Thanks for this recipe. I'd forgotten the proportions and tried to make this earlier, but it took forever to get the syrupy texture. Too much water, and not enough patience since the waffles were cooking when I discovered I was out of syrup. Remembered the vanilla, forgot the butter. MUCH BETTER your way. Thank you for caring enough to share this. It isn't the cost of store bought syrup that irks me, it's the corn syrup. For some reason(Mom :) I am not a fan of straight maple syrup. I may add a taste of molasses the next time for body.

I love this stuff. Made it this morning from childhood memories. Mom fixed this whenever we had pancakes. We couldn't afford maple syrup in my house in the 50s/60s. Being a bit broke this summer I reverted to my childhood to help make ends meet. My efforts didn't turn out so sell this AM, thus I checked for recipes. Seems I forgot to add butter. Makes a big difference. Other than that. Had forgotten how good it tastes.

The brown sugar and water proportions are the same as the ones my mother used to make the syrup I was brought up on; no other ingredients. Have a suspicion it is an Upper Ohio Valley thing dating back to the upriver movement of sugar/molasses in steamboat days. I boil the mixture for at least 5 but not more than 8 minutes. Much more tasty than maple syrup.

And as for "bestcook", either have great neighbors or you are full of it. Such an amazing recipe indeed, my girlfriend and I will enjoy it. We also, "googled" it like "Lady A".
