Introduced in 2000
This limited-edition version of Apple Jacks featured race car driver Jeff Gordon on the box and "new racing colors" cereal pieces. The new cereal pieces were dual-colored. One was pink and blue and the other was yellow and red. Despite the new look, this cereal tasted exactly like Apple Jacks.
In addition to Gordon's picture, the front of the box also carried the "Official Cereals Of NASCAR" label. A schedule of NASCAR races was printed on the back of the box.
The cereal box for Racing Apple Jacks was the first ever to use patterned holographic rainbow foil and embossing. A packaging technique that has since become very common.
Paul Norman, Kellogg's vice president of U.S. cereal marketing in 2000, talked about Racing Apple Jacks in the trade journal Food & Drug Packaging. "Jeff Gordon has huge appeal... and we believe the addition of unique red, blue and yellow Jacks and the one-of-a-kind holographic foil pack will help bring excitement to the (cereal) category."
At the same time this cereal was introduced, Kellogg's unveiled another sports-related cereal, 3 Point Pops, aimed at making new cereal fans out of basketball fans.
