Cocoa Puffs Combos
Introduced in 2008
Cocoa Puffs Combos cereal was introduced in the summer of 2008. It was the first new Cocoa Puffs cereal since the original was unveiled in 1958.
The cereal consists of of brown chocolate flavored balls (or Puffs) mixed with an even amount of yellow-white vanilla balls. The shape and texture of the cereal pieces are similar to that of the original Cocoa Puffs cereal.
According to Scott Dorman, an associate marketing manager for General Mills, "Kids love to mix together chocolate and vanilla, two of their favorite flavors. Cocoa Puffs Combos gives kids the perfect combination of flavors they want, and parents will love the nutrition." (Business Wire 7/15/08).
The initial box for the cereal features Sonny the Cuckoo Bird holding the two colored cereal pieces in one hand and pointing at them with his other hand.
The back of the box shows a cartoon city block in happy devastation as chocolate and vanilla cereal pieces rain down from the sky. The scene is similar to the 1998 disaster film Armageddon except the characters are all animals and most of them are smiling.
The text on the back of the box is partially hidden as part of a figure-out-the-missing word code game. The fist two sentences read as follows, "It's pandemonium! News of the great new taste of COCOA PUFFS COMBOS has just hit the streets, and it seems like Sony is surrounded by all kinds of wacky combinations."
