This cereal is described on the box as a "naturally flavored sweetened corn and oat cereal." The box - which shows a bowl of the cereal next to an enticing banana split - declares, "Your favorite frozen treat is now a cereal." The cereal consists of round Kix-shaped puffs and multi-colored banana split flavored clusters which slightly resemble the frozen treat the cereal is based on. The puff pieces are brown, tan and off-red.

When this cereal was released, General Mills also introduced Dippin' Dots Cookies 'n Cream Cereal. According to the Dippin' Dots websites, Banana Split and Cookies 'n Cream are the 2 most popular flavors of their flash-frozen ice cream product.

The ingredients listed on the nutrition panel for Dippin' Dots Banana Split Cereal are whole grain corn, sugar, banana split flavored clusters, corn meal, whole grain oats, corn syrup, canola oil, salt, color, baking soda, natural flavor and a smattering of vitamins and minerals.
