Great Grains - Raisins, Dates & Pecans
Introduced in 1992
When this cereal first came out, it was described on the back of the box like this:
"Great Whole Grain Taste. Post Great Grains gives you the rich, flavorful taste and great nutrition of three hearty whole grains - wheat, oat and barley - blended with delicious pecans. These grains are lightly toasted for a naturally nutty taste and hearty crunch you'll love."
In 2011, the description on the back of the box went like this:
"You know when you eat right, you just feel more energetic. That's why starting your day with Great Grains Raisins, Dates & Pecans is a great choice. As part of the Great Grains cereal family, Raisins, Dates & Pecans provides the goodness of the whole whole grain. Rather than grinding our wheat into flour and then stamping it into uniform flakes, Great Grains gently steams, rolls and bakes our whole wheat to help lock in the full flavor and nutrients. Keeping the whole grain whole means that you enjoy better nutrition! We then add in naturally nutritious raisins and dates, multi grain clusters and scoops of wholesome pecans, so you can have a great tasting breakfast that truly provides less processed nutrition. It's whole food from the field to your bowl, with whole grains, fiber and nutritious ingredients in every bite!"

My favorite cereal by far, but it seems to have disappeared from all the grocers' shelves in Toronto over the past month!

Love this cereal but haven't been able to find it for a few weeks now in the grocery stores. It would be a shame if it is no longer made.

Seriously, I don't understand why this cereal only has 41 votes for best cereal of all time. To me, the Raisins, Dates, and Pecans version Great Grains (along with the Pecan version) is the Filet Mignon of breakfast cereals! In terms of heartiness, being good for you, and tasting great, it doesn't get much better than this from a box! The Banana Nut Crunch and Blueberry Morning varieties are also pretty exceptional, but I haven't seen those two in a while.
I suppose in light of all of the brightly-colored, sugary, kid-oriented cereals, a lot of people might think Great Grains is either boring, too expensive, or tastes like cardboard. But none of that is true. While breakfast cereal was not meant to be a balanced meal in itself, this particular version comes as close as I've seen this side of good oatmeal with fruit and nuts on it. But to me Great Grains taste even better! And it's quicker to make if you don't have time.
Post, please never discontinue the Great Grains line... they're some of the best breakfast-in-a-box products ever made! David L. in Oregon.

I just bought it today. It sounds too promising especially after I researched it. It's got ingredients which are extremely beneficial for overall health. I cant wait to try it out tomorrow morning for my breakfast!

My favorite cereal. It makes me happy to know healthy can taste so super good. Ate it through my pregnancies too, and now my kids love it!
