Honey Nut Chex
Introduced in 1999
"Welcome to Generation Chex."
This product has been described on the box as a "sweetened oven toasted corn cereal with real honey and natural almond flavoring." When introduced, it had almond pieces listed as its 4th ingredient.
In 1999/2000, a television commercial showed a conservative father and his punk rock daughter sitting at the same table, quietly eating this cereal. A narrator explained their differences and the one thing every family should have in common:
"Father... daughter... conservative... liberal... Rachmaninoff... rock and roll... practical... not (practical)... What brings them to the table? Honey Nut Chex. A delicious taste. An amazing crunch. If they could share this family value, what next? Maybe conversation? (complete silence) Maybe after breakfast. Honey Nut Chex... Welcome to Generation Chex."
The introductory box featured a recipe for Honey-Roasted Chex Mix on the side and find-the-words puzzle on the back called "Honey Nut Chex-planations".
The first 8 ingredients listed on the nutrition panel were rice, sugar, corn meal, almond pieces, honey, salt, barley malt extract and brown sugar molasses.

I love the honey nut chex, but wonder if it may contain msg? I'm getting the same kind of reaction I get when ingesting msg. I have celiac disease, and am very sensitive to additives, a lot of them lumped under the term artificial flavor. Would appreciate a reply, as I'm not sure if it is the cereal causing the problems. My email is tinker.ss@tds.net if you care to reply. Thanks! Tinker Strom
