Introduced in 1966


Product 19 is made up of lightly sweetened flakes made of corn, oats, wheat, and rice. It was developed by Kellogg's to compete with General Mill's Total cereal.

The name "Product 19" is derived from the fact that this cereal was the 19th product that Kellogg's began developing in 1966.

When the cereal was first introduced, it was described as "Instant Nutrition - New cereal food created especially for working mothers, otherwise busy mothers and everybody in a hurry."

This and Team were staples in my house growing up. And some sweet cereals for dessert. Please bring this back. Kellogg's, we don't need 25 different flavors of Special K. We need Product 19, or '19s,' as my mother called them.

It's incredible that Product 19 lasted 49 years before being discontinued. I never thought it tasted as good as GM Total, so it really won't be much of a loss for me. Kellogg's developed it in 1967 to compete with Total and Total is still the reigning champ of flakes sprayed with vitamins 56 years later. RIP Product 19.
