Introduced in 1983
This cereal was described on the box as a "fruity sweetened corn, oat & wheat cereal fortified with 10 essential vitamins and minerals."
The box featured Papa Smurf hoisting a spoonful of the red and purple cereal while Smurfette and two other Smurfs pick Smurf Berries from a Smurf Berry bush in the background.
The Smurfs were painfully cute, blue creatures who had their own animated TV series from 1981 to 1989. They first appeared in a Belgian comic strip by an artist named Peyo in 1958.
In 1987, Post produced a second Smurfs cereal called Smurf Magic Berries. Unlike Smurf Berry Crunch, the Magic Berries cereal contained marshmallows.
Smurf Berry Crunch Jingle
From TV ad; sung to the tune of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker Suite
"Smurf Berry Crunch is fun to eat
A Smurfy fruity breakfast treat
Made by Smurfs so happily
It tastes like crunchy Smurf Berries
It's berry shaped and crispy too
In berry red and Smurfy blue."
Smurf Berry Crunch Trivia:
Actor Jack Black (Tropic Thunder, School Of Rock) once appeared in a Smurf Berry Crunch television commercial. According to Black, ""My stock plummeted at school... Being in a Smurfberry Crunch cereal ad and being pulled along in a red wagon...?"

I have been trying to find a berry cereal that matched the flavor of this one and have been unsuccessful. I am in my 40's now and still hop online every now and then to see if I can find anything about them bringing it back. This is my all time favorite... and I love a lot of cereals.

I miss it. I've been looking for it since I was 6 years old. I wish Post would make it in a retro box... don't change the flavor. Guaranteed every 80s baby would buy a ton.

This cereal had a strong chemical taste to it from all the dye. Not an aftertaste; the flavor, from start to finish, was food dye. Just awful.

I remember eating this cereal every morning as a kid at age 2. It brings back so many memories as a child. The cereal was wonderful. Will this cereal ever return to stores? This was better than Trix.

Please bring this cereal back out... this brings back so many memories... I loved the Smurfs in the 80's and I still love them now. I would love to scoop a spoonful of Smurf Berries in the mornings. I'm sure that would help anyone have a Smurfy day! Plus a new movie coming soon. Post could make a lot of money from the older and new generations. I would buy a box just to keep as a souvenir too.
