Introduced in 1988
This seasonal version of Cap'n Crunch was first introduced in 1988. It includes traditional Cap'n Crunch cereal pieces and red and green Crunch Berries. In recent years, the Crunch Berries were produced in holiday shapes like Christmas trees, stars and ski caps. Every box of Christmas Crunch features the Cap'n Crunch character dressed as Santa Claus.
The following description of the cereal is from a New York Times article dated December 16, 1994:
"The Quaker Oats Company has been selling a Christmas Crunch version of its popular Cap'n Crunch children's cereal since 1988.
"The kids' sweetened cereal business has an entertainment angle to it," said Steve Petitpas, product team leader for Cap'n Crunch cereals at Quaker in Chicago. "We want to make our cereal more fun.
"Quaker data show that Cap'n Crunch Christmas Crunch accounts for 13 to 18 percent of the brand's total annual sales, he added, and a quarter of that volume is "incremental to the category" -- that is, not cannibalizing other brands."

Usually Christmas Crunch is the first to arrive at Target, but this year it was Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch (which was in high demand). Hopefully the Xmas Cap'n will show up soon!

The actual first year for Christmas Crunch is 1987. I have the 1987 box with the Christmas ornament on the front which has the '1987' on the ornament. The box is dated 9/1987.

The Christmas Crunch is very good, however we could not find any in the Southwestern part of Pittsburgh, PA. We have looked and check with store managers and there were some order but no one could get any extra. We have tried the only place that seems to have any is amazon and they are selling for upwards of 10 dollars a box. Please let me know if there is anywhere you have this product online that I can order it. Next year make sure this area of Pittsburgh PA has a lot.

I need 4 boxes for 13 under privileged kids. I make cereal bars out of them. I can not find them anywhere in my area (Clearlake Houston). The kids think of them as a tradition now. This will be the 2nd year in a row that I haven't found them. The stores in my area are filled with grinches. They won't even order me a case. Please help. Colleen Puckett 9492905574

Why is it so hard to find anymore? It always sells out so it's not like they have tons of stock after Christmas. I need 4 boxes for me and a friend. Anyone know where to get it besides Amazon.com? They charge way too much.

There was also a Race Car Crunch in maybe 2009. It had the Cap'n in racing gear ala NASCAR. That's the only one I see missing from your list. Great list. BTW... I look forward to Christmas Crunch every year. I've saved boxes from the last 5 years.

I used to eat this cereal when I was a kid and I'm Jewish! Does that make me pregnant?
