Corn Flakes With Instant Bananas
Introduced in 1964
Corn Flakes With Instant Bananas was Kellogg's response to Post's Corn Flakes & Strawberries, the first cereal to include freeze-dried fruit. Post's freeze-dried debut happened 1963, almost two years before this cereal appeared.
Ads for Corn Flakes With Instant Bananas featured the voice of Jimmy Durante and a talking banana named Pronto. The tag line for the cereal was "Just add milk... presto! Real tasty banana slices."
Unfortunately, the "tasty banana slices" didn't taste particularly tasty. Worse yet, they had a tendency to turn an unappetizing brownish color in milk.
The cereal was discontinued in 1966.
Company Description: Kellogg's was originally founded as the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company in 1906. The company's founder Will Keith Kellogg is credited with inventing corn flakes along with his brother John Harvey Kellogg. The company was renamed the Kellogg Company in 1922... I disagree with the author. Kellogg's Corn Flakes with Instant Bananas Tasted Great, and Bananas are especially conducive to freeze-drying. Post's Corn Flakes With Strawberries were terrible! Strawberries are NOT conducive to Freeze-Drying and had the consistency of cardboard and were Sour.

I also remember and LOVED this cereal as a 5 year old, along with the Jimmy Durante commercial. Fond memory.

One of the best cereal I've had and I only had it a handful of times, but I remember the taste. Really good.

I remember this cereal fondly including the commercial with Jimmy D. I was 4 when it was introduced and 6 when it was discontinued. Residing in Chicago at the time, I was sad to see it taken off the market. I currently live in California and have yet to find anyone who remembers it. I liked it then and wish they would bring it back.

I remember this cereal (and I liked it)... I was 6 when it was discontinued. And I remember the Durante commercial for it too... but can't find any clips of it anywhere. A very good memory for me.

I remember when they test marketed this cereal in Chicago. I was just fascinated with it! Didn't bother me one bit that the "freeze-dried" bananas didn't reconstitute completely, I loved it!
