Hot & Spicy Veggie Sausage Patties

If you like Morningstar veggie sausage and you like a little kick with your breakfast, you'll probably like this product. In terms of mild, medium and hot on the spicy scale, I'd rank these as medium - a 5.5 out of 10. It actually takes two bites before you realize these are meant to be hot. The spiciness sort of creeps up on you instead of assaulting you. This is a plus or minus depending on your love of hotness.

I prepared these according to all three of optional cooking instructions: oven, skillet and microwave. I preferred the oven method. The skillet method took longer than the time stated on the package and the center was never as hot as the crispy edges. The microwave method worked fine, but the mock meat was ever-so-slightly chewy. The oven resulted in an evenly heated product with a decent texture.

I enjoyed these "sausages" most as part of a breakfast sandwich. Eaten alone, these "sausages" are exactly what you expect, a spicier version of a decent product. When eaten as part of a sandwich, the flavor is more of a mild surprise. The heat from the "sausage" intermingles with the egg and cheese prompting one to wonder, "Where is that pleasant hotness coming from... the veggie sausage, the cheese, the egg? Who cares? I like this sandwich."

Overall: I recommend this product. If you think you might like it, I bet you will.
