We took our niece to HOLLYWOOD for the first time and went into mels for breakfaast the service was lousy once we ordered we waited over half an hour for our food which we saw sitting on the counter top for over ten minutes. The waitress forgot all about us once she took our order very disappointing.

Mel's is your basic (bad) diner food. The prices have gone up recently. I remember they're having better prices than what I found this morning. But, what compels me to write this review is just how bad their service was. As a treat, I took my daughter out for breakfast before she had to be at school (Hollywood High, across the street). 6:45 a.m. There were 4 other tables in various stages of ordering or eating. A mysteriously harried waiter calls out to us (doesn't stop at our table)that it will be "a while." I waited a few more minutes to see if he would come back to take our order. He didn't. We left. At that hour of the morning, Mel's needs to be an efficient coffee shop, not a "fun" diner. Not worth the wait.

Do you know anybody that brings their own popcorn to the movies? As my mom once said, "That's where they get you."
Next time I go to Mel's, I'll bring my own bacon.
Here's the deal: Pancakes, waffles and French toast are all very reasonably priced there (usually under $5.00). I had French Toast. It was above par (despite having to scrape my own butter from cardboard patties.)
Everything sounds great so far, until... I ordered a side of bacon... $3.70 for four pieces of bacon. No, it wasn't any kind of "super bacon".
I recommend Mel's for pancakes, waffles and French toast. Just make sure you bring your own sausage or bacon. If enough of us do it, they'll get the picture and drop the price on those side items.
Happy Breakfasts!

Nice place to grab a breakfast if you have time to spare. Its open late so you can grab breakfast after a long night partying on the weekend.

I had a Denver omelette. It was good. The fun part was spotting a couple of my favorite celebrities...director Panos Koronis(Jimmy Christ) and actor Al Sol(American History XXX).Also, my server was an old man named "Old Goat" who actually looked like a goat haha. And upon leaving I said "see ya later old goat"...he just smiled...
