Hi,
Yesterday I stopped in to get a quick breakfast at the New Uptown Cafe. I was the only one there other than the two policeman who probably were indulging in a free breakfast. My order was simple, two eggs basted and toast. I am not too fussy. Even though the toast was mostly burnt black and the eggs were overcooked, I had no real issues. However as I looked inside of my grey ceramic coffee cup, I noticed that most of the inside of the cup was stained brown. I thought, "Oh well, they are showing their age." Nevertheless, I couldn't help rubbing my finger against the inside of the cup. The brown grime came off on my finger. Maybe one cup had slipped through an otherwise thorough cleaning regimine.
I pointed this problem out to my waitress. She said that its ok, they bleach the cups once a month. I guess you have to time your visits according to the cleaning schedule.

This place is awesome if you love to eat. Their portions are so generous, and very tasty. Its kinda strange because this place only stays open during brunch hours, so it may be packed at times, but well worth the wait for some good food

Go hungry!!! Extremely large portions make this a great restaurant if you want to knock out breakfast AND lunch at one time.
Because it's in Uptown (ie; area folks keep unpredictable hours) it's hard to pin-point a good time to avoid a wait. If you DO have to wait, there's not much space, but it's a pretty no-nonsense restaurant so it will probably be pretty fast.
The New Uptown manages to offer a fantastic variety of breakfasts - meatless, cajun, meat-y. All are extremely large (perfect for sharing) and very flavorful.
I enjoy the benedicts - the cajun benedict in particular is great if you like spicy in the morning! The other benedicts are great as well!
Coffee is strong and very tasty, and depending on your server the refills are usually pretty quick and frequent. The OJ is "super pulpy" which is nice if you like the fresh OJ experience (in MN).
Stop in with an empty belly and an open mind, this is also a fun place to people watch!
