Tourist spot. It has that Disney feel of way too many people haunting tiny tables in a hot, open air tent. Seating is not well handled, leading to flocks of people lurking about waiting for you to leave.
Service is prompt, but since they only serve beignets and coffee, how could it be otherwise.
Compared to Café Beignet, the square donuts are more crispy, and had more starch in their powdered sugar. Chicory coffee was very good.
After trying both, I prefer Café Beignet, both for the taste of the product, better selection, and improved tableside experience.
Way too crowded for my nerves, and not much on the menu.

Warm fresh beignets - better than doughnuts. Truly delicious. This is a must-try for any foodie visiting the French Quarter.

Although Katrina knocked it out of business for a number of months Cafe du Monde is back up and running and it's the best it's always been. As New Orleans is the city where one tends to indulge in excesses of alcoholic beverages, what better way to ease a whanging hangover than chicory coffee with scalded milk and freshly made beignets?? THE BEST.

One of those places that makes life worth living! A true place I always make an effort to go to once or twice a year. I sometimes divert my route, just to take time out to go there. They are successful because they keep it simple and they don't change it and they are the best at what they do and what's not to love about that? As far as I'm concerned, it's an AMERICAN icon built on local tradition.

Nothing beats Cafe du Monde for the money. The Beignets are excellent. They are served warm and sprinkled with a mound of powdered sugar which coats the entire floor of the restaurant. The Cafe Aulait, coffee with steamed milk, is the best prepared coffee drink I've ever had. It has an authentic feel that always seems to be missing in the franchise coffee bars.
Don't be taken in by imitators such as "Cafe Beignet," go for the real thing. Additionally, don't fall to the temptation to eat at the Krispy Kreme nearby, the Beignets at Cafe du Monde are a unique experience and they are just as good.

This is a must for any New Orleans tourist. It's a breezy open air cafe where you can people watch to your heart's content. Their coffee has the interesting flavor of chicory and their beignets (fried, donut-like dough) are chewy, hot, and covered with a mountain of powdered sugar. That's about all they serve, but it's so yummy that it's enough. Be sure to take a trip to the bathroom back in the kitchen so you can see how quickly their lines of waiters and waitresses move and juggle trays piled high with beignets to get them out to the hungry crowd. It's quite a sight.
