Ive spent many hours there, love all the folks that visited there.
Met and lost the true love of my life there.

The giants camp will be remembered, and revered, as long as I still draw breath.

The Giant's Camp has been gone for a number of years now and discussing the issues is probably not in anyone's interest. However, the record should be correct if for nothing else than for posterity. I knew Jackie Leonard for many years and have only very fond memories of her and her generosity. No one and I mean no one every left the restaurant hungry...money or not. She fed many people who were needy and never asked anything in return. There was always a smile and a friendly atmosphere for all. She was a wonderful, compassionate, and caring person who I miss terribly. She never claimed to be the owner of the restaurant and often expressed her thoughtful feeling for Mrs Jeanie Tomaini. In all the years I went there I never saw Tina Tomaini. I should mention that a large picture of the "Giant" Mr. Al Tomaini hung in the establishment the entire time Mrs. Leonard operated it. I never heard any one speak bad of Mrs. Leonard and witnessed a large funeral when she passed. Whatever happened to the restaurant after her death did not involve JACKIE Leonard in any way. I know all her employees who were there for years remember her with love...Ms Ingrahm, Linda, Nish...etc . I am happy the community is coming together to honor the "Giant" and the Boot and hopefully Jackie Leonard.

please dont listen to tina tomani she knows nothing cause she was never around. if the leonards ran the restaurant paid the bills and all how did they pretty much not own it. Jeanie and Lisa and you where never around unless it was time to pay the rent you know nothing. your just saying what you want people to see and make them think bad about the Leonards and there daughter you disgust me.

I enjoyed going to Giant's Camp very much since I grew up not 5 miles away. My first few years of life were right next door (in the early 50's). I can remember all the animal exhibits and the great time I use to have meeting friends for lunch there. I haven't been there for over 20 years now, since I now live in VA. I met the giant as a little girl, but really can't remember him. My mom spoke well of him. But I can remember the atmosphere as always feeling cozy though there was a hussle & bussle of people coming and going. I still have a picture of me next to the giant's boots and statue taken in 1985. I am sorry to hear it has closed down. I would like to have visited again when I come for a visit.

HI Everyone,
I'm the Daughter of Al "The Giant" and Jeanine "The Half Girl" Tomaini. We own The giants Camp and the Restaurant. I don't know how it could be owned by the Lenards as they paid a Very SMALL lease every Month to us. The food was Great until the Daughter stepped in and then the service and food went down hill from there. After the lies about them owning the Camp and that the IRS was after them for not paying taxes for 10 years. The Restaurant Closed and The Lenards Stole Everything out of it including the Kitchen Sink. So please know your Facts before thinking you comment... Thank You!

I remember when i was a small child it was the fun place to go,not only was it good food they also had a sea turtle tank, bait house, small fishing boat rentals that my dad use to take me out in,they were all on the alafia river, now almost nothing stands there except the old run down resturant. it breaks my heart. Gibsonton has always been show people and although i wasn't part of the show people it still was a great place to grow up. all the things i remember are wonderful.my memories ,the tomanis was the giant and his wife. when he past there was his boot in fond memory on hwy 41 it's still there but not much left of it. then the sea turtle tank disapeared. the the bait house& boats, the tarpon tournement, the camp is so run down and the county would never let Mrs. LEONARD MAKE ANY IMPROVEMENTS. When mrs. Ingrahm cooked there it was the best place in the world to eat. BUSSINESS WENT BAD WHEN THEY COULDEN'T FIND ANYONE GOOD TO COOK THERE. my love to the leonards, sharon Ratell

Yes I have eatan at the giants camp many times. Its like the first thing I think of when I think of food how my mom would cook it. No actually its better than my mom would cook it. I would be very disappointed to see the restraunt go away. No one knows a nice atmospherer until they go there. I am sorry maybe they dont need to shut down just move. gibsonton is growing so fast making something it is not. I used to love gibsonton for the heritage and pride. But now its full of snow birds and WALMART ? Who would of thought. well i wish you guys best of luck and I will come in soon to grab a bite. thank you guys for serving for so very long. , travis if you guys have any question please contact me by e-mail.

I have been blessed enough that the Giants Camp has had an impact on my life for the past 29 years. Some of my very first memories took place in that restaurant. You will not find a better breakfast in town. This has been a family business for as long as I can remember, and as soon as you walk in the door, you will be greated that way.
In Memory of Rudy & Jackie Leonard. You are missed and loved. I will see you in heaven.

Years ago, when I lived in Riverview and it was so small that it had 1 flashing light and mostly cattle farms along 301, I ate regularly at the Giant's Camp and LOVED it for it's food and it's local color. I doubt if the local (show people) color is the same--but I bet the food is still wonderful! I'm glad some things never change!
