It was crowded, the food was quite good, but the staff was not too happy.

First impressions weren't very good. One of the giant crabs in the tank just inside the front door had a massive kicking struggle then rolled over and died while we were waiting to be seated - yuk. It was a very busy Sunday morning, but the host who showed us to our table wasn't too friendly. The food was okay, we had the breakfast buffet, but the service although friendly, was slow. We were kept waiting for drinks, for plates, for the check, everything. The coffee was wonderful though. All in all, we'd probably go back, just not on a Sunday morning. Too hectic.

Roaches adorn the bathroom, and I swear saw a rat running into the kitchen, or was that the manager? Do not eat here or at the Diamond Head location! Yuck!

We've been going to Sam Choy's for a number of years, off and on, but it is not on the regular rotation right now. One of their best points is good food, and lots of it. I have always liked the Fisherman's Platter (fish & eggs), although they may be calling it something else now. Another thing have liked is that it is big, very local (not many tourists), and visually interesting. There have been some bad aspects. At one point some of the waiters were extremely obsequious (asking if everything was alright maybe 25 times during the meal, excessive fakery). This is better now. The restaurant is very noisy.

While working in Honolulu for 3 months, this was one of my favorite restaurants. It took me a few weeks to find any traditonal quality breakfast spots and this quickly became my favorite. Consistent, reasonably priced with several early-bird specials mid-week. I never had to valet park and the coffee became a favorite as well. I bought several bags which lasted me over a year. I never drank coffee before and now I love the Sam Choy's Kona blend!!

Breakfast is the best meal here. Try the fried noodles or fried rice.
Don't worry about the valet parking -- it's free and easy.
