To start off - bring ca$h. They don't take plastic or cheques. The food was nothing special, the service was argumentative. The serving wench disagreed that I could give my included coffee to one of my dining companions. And then the refills were slow, the service was piece-meal.

Overall, our Sunday morning breakfast group has removed D&J from any hope of ever being on our list again. Not least because the interior matches the service -- sort of drab and dingy.

A nice, small restaurant with good breakfast traffic. Springfield is known as the home of the Horseshoe Sandwich, which Wikipedia currently describes as follows: "open-faced sandwich begins with thick-sliced sourdough bread, toasted and a couple of hamburger patties or ham. It is then topped with french fries and smothered with a “secret” cheese sauce. With its many variations, it is a local favorite not often found outside Central Illinois."

D&J does a breakfast version featuring thick toast topped with an egg or two, breakfast meat, shredded hash browns, and finally a cheese sauce or gravy. I enjoyed mine very much, and recommend this small diner for a comfortable, inexpensive breakfast.
