The problem with The Keystone is that it is a hippie place -- which means that if you want to appear groovy you have to get with the program and love this place. Well...the food here is pretty dicey, both in terms of preparation and quality. I can just hear someone say "Hey, man, what goes around comes around.." but after a while, let's face it: chocolate is better in it's sleep than carob is awake and the Keystone wouldn't survive a day if old hippies didn't feel obligated to go there.

The food at the keystone cafe is okay.... but don't go there looking for any of the standard breakfast items. I went looking for pancakes, and ended up with wheatless oatcakes. Which, I'm sure were amazing for what they were...
The coffee is serve yourself, at the front of the restaurant, so you have to get up and climb through tiny asiles to get more. Oh, and it's cash only to boot.

One look at the menu and youre drooling. the food?.....is edible. I ordered the red pepper cilantro pesto omelette and the name is far more memorable than the meal. if youre looking for kind servers, a reading spot and an ok bite to eat, this is your place.

This was by far the worst food I have ever eaten, or I should say, left uneaten as it was impossible to eat it. For example, my husband ordered a pesto omelette and was given an omelette filled with a half of a cup of crushed, uncooked garlic (the garlic was clearly processed garlic, not fresh pressed) mixed with a pinch of dried basil. Not fresh basil. Quite clearly not PESTO. He ate one bite of it before looking inside the omelette to see what the problem was. Even after only one bite he smelled so strongly of garlic, I could smell it coming through his skin. He was sick for days. The service was not just slow but completely incompetent. They did not even know what was on the regular menu. I don't mind hippy environment at all, I just don't like GROSS. I would not ever go back or advise anyone else to eat there.

Best eggies in town. Oatmeal for those with CHF. Great place to read the Weekly in peace. Recently repainted, the Keystone Cafe has lost little of it's hippy charm. This is the place to grab a couple "little white ones" and a cup of strong coffee after a long night of pub crawling. Service is professional and friendly. Highly recommend.

A definite must on any breakfast circuit. The ambience is unmistakeable and the menu filled with items you'd be hardpressed to find elsewhere. I arrange my semi-regular driving trips between the Bay Area and Seattle to put me in Eugene for breakfast. First et there in '82. May it live forever.

Although the Keystone is a true Eugenian hippy dippy spot, their food is awesome. And they don't discriminate even if you like meat and prefer to cut your hair. They have entrees with meat as well as vegetarian and vegan. In fact, the vegan breakfast, the 'Powerhouse' is one of my favorites. (Spinach over brown rice with a yummy peanut sauce) The refill rating doesn't appy because you get to serve yourself, I guess it's just too much work for the wait staff. And they do serve that god awful french roast coffee so you might want herb tea. The service is slacker-esque and the atmosphere is grundgy but the food is great. They're only open for breakfast and lunch and there's usually a line on the weekends, so bring your hacky sack balls or a good book.
