The Ivy may be the place to see and be seen in LA, but it is definitely NOT the place for French Toast. Their French Toast at $20 for two pieces (including a small piece of ham) is the driest, blandest French Toast I may have ever eaten in Los Angeles. It was a complete mystery to me how the French Toast could be so dry. The brioche bread they use started dry. That usually means the bread will absorb the egg custard mixture and result in a moist French Toast. But by some culinary anti-miracle their brioche seemed to repel moisture. For a better French Toast, seriously, go to Norm's just a mile a way. It's much better. You get much more. And it's 1/4 the price.
The other people I had brunch with had better experiences with The Ivy's Crab Eggs Benedict and one of their Mexican breakfast dishes. However at $24 per serving, you might think a fancy place like the Ivy could keep crab shells out of their crab cakes. We found two pieces of shell in the Benedict.
If you're ever thinking of going to The Ivy, reconsider. Go across the street to the News Room cafe instead. The food is much better and much more reasonably priced, plus if you sit on the patio you can still see all the poor saps (including the odd celebrity) going to The Ivy for an overpriced, substandard breakfast.

I saw Mischa Barton there so even if the food isn't to your liking, you will always enjoy the company.

Absolutely enjoyable. The service was wonderful. A slight bit pricey. I'd heard this was a good place to see Hollywood celebrities. No such luck for us, but I would still go back in a heartbeat.
