I read some of the other reviews and could not believe that they were referring to the Fred's that I love. We eat breakfast there regularly. The service is attentive, and the food is cooked to perfection. I believe that their pancakes are outstanding, as are their "eggs in a hole" and the home fries.

hipster-type-place with good selection, but pretty pricey, i got the macdaddy and cheese (macaroni and cheese), it was nothing special, just a bowl of macaroni and cheese for like 8 bucks, a little disappointing

Fred 62's has a diner look and feel to it. The food is good, once the cooks get your order right. The portions are average and don't fill you up too well, especially the egg dishes. The prices are sortof on the high side for what you get. The menu offers a lot of kosher deli type items. The service staff is slow and forgetful. The waiters and waitresses seem to be more into dancing and singing to the 80's tunes they play than to servicing the customer. Be prepared to wait for a seat on the weekends unless you sit at the counter. If you're into a diner, deli, hip type restaurant for the younger crowd that has good food, small portions and lousy service, then this is the place to go.

I love Fred 62 - I go there every now and then. I think the food and selection is great - I just wish the prices were a little bit lower.

i hate fred 62. the place is pretentious. filled with a bunch of trustafarian-hipsters and service that is slower than molasses, the place just has this cooler-than-thou vibe that makes me never want to go there again.
case in point, i mosey on over for breakfast one morning, not only does the waitress not help me, but she goes and helps these people that come in 10 minutes after me.
So finally I order my food. i get it, it's cold, i complain, she tries to argue. i leave disgruntled and hungry.
tried to go for late night snack one night, had a similar experience with a waiter, who was too busy trying to talk about his band that isn't actually in existence yet.
sure they fill and refill you coffee cu, but only if they see you in the first place.
House of Pies is a much better place to go.

i was turned on by the christmas lights (im assuming though, they were for just this time of year), and by the art in the back room. the crowd is mostly younger hipsters, with the occaisional older couple.
the waitresses all wear fishnets and thick soled shoes, and i dont know why.
the prices mostly end in ".62" which was sort of cute.
i got the bossanova waffle, a belgium waffle with a large scoop of quality vanilla ice cream on top, two large dollops of whipped cream on the side (not rediwhip, but not the richest either) and it was covered in what they called 'dulce de leche'/ but it sort of just seemed like that canned sweetened condensed milk. but was good nonetheless, and only about 5 dollahs.
my companions got a 'house salad' (not on the menu really, but provided. 4/10 mixed greens w/ croutons, small bowl) and a 'monsiuer' (or something) open face 'omelette' made with ham (sliced and diced, not chunk diced) and cheese. it was presented on a circular plate with some green stuff sprinkled lightly over it. it basically looked like what i can make at home and it cost more than my waffle.
it has a large menu though, and i bet most people could find something. interesting booth seating, somewhat posh, yet angled so you end up looking at the next table and hearing them talk alot.

Fred's is a very hip 24-hour diner, with a satisfying breakfast menu that's available all day or night. The quantities are usually just right, and the food is tasty and fresh. I often bring out-of-town guests here for a late breakfast, to get a taste of LA.
