I have eaten at Lou's more times than I can count. It's a great place for a breakfast meeting with one or two other folks. Their lunches are good, too.
About the breakfasts: the breakfasts are pretty good. Eggs are cooked to your order consistently. With scrambled eggs, order fewer eggs because the cook just ladles eggs onto the grill. Ordering two eggs scrambled versus three eggs scrambled will result most times in orders of the same size. Their potatoes are their downfall. The cubed and fried potatoes accompanying nearly every breakfast dish are too fried and dry. No amount of salt or seasoning can bring them back.
The service is prompt. New England style. You get the cold shoulder sometimes if you haven't made up your mind within two minutes of being seated. If you need extra time, you'll get it. Finding your server to take your order can be a challenge. They try to move you in and out quickly to seat as many folks as possible. You get the feeling of being hustled out of there on a weekend morning.
Arriving at the restaurant is your first experiece there. Regulars know to line up along the divider between the bar section and the dining tables to wait for a table. Neophytes, usually first-year students and their parents, will not get this and the staff will herd them into line. A line like this forms only on the weekends, usually.
Lou's is known for its pasteries, pies, doughnuts, and cakes. Those are available for order in or for take out. During busy holiday seasons, call ahead to reserve your order.
All in all, this restaurant is fine, and gives you a good feeling for the hustle and bustle of Hanover, but it is not the best ever.

We stopped by Lou's Friday afternoon after Turkey Day, looking for a late breakfast. I had the corned beef hash with poached eggs, touted by the menu as being homemade hash, not canned. It was wonderful!
Having discovered Lou's, and needing a place for an early breakfast that Saturday before leaving town, we returned to Lou's. This time, I had the special of an omelet filled with diced tomatoes, chives, and provolone cheese - with, oh yes, a side order of that wonderful hash. Delicious again! Both breakfasts included a choice of homemade pastries or muffins.
Lou's is only open for breakfast and lunch, and breakfast is served all hours it is open.
