You don't find too many places like Frank's anymore. I love the old style greasy spoon type restaurants as a part of old Americana . . . providing the place is clean and the food is homemade. Clean is not a good word to use when describing Frank's. Quaint, okay; clean, no.
I ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast. this was my biggest disappointment. The steak was the commercial quality deep fried "you can get them anywhere" variety. The gravy was good, lumpy the way I like it (really!). The hasbrowns (which I ordered with onions and they never appeared) were the prepackaged type, sort of stir fried on the grill. You know the type, some parts crispy some parts nearly raw, I would guess purchased in bulk in big plastic bags. The eggs were okay but a little crispy on the edges (I go for sunny side up). The toast was made from cheap bread; half air and sliced in a 3/4 to 1/4 ratio.
The waitperson had on a fairly dirty white (I think) tee shirt . . . but had a nice personality. The prices seem reasonable.
Frank's was an interesting experience. Probably had better days, and then started the classical trend away from homemade to portion packed selections. You can get similar food at Denny's, but not the ambiance (no, I do not patronize Denny's . . . ever!!) I would recommend a visit to Frank's just for the experience. Please start with low expectations and then everything will look good from there on. It would be nice if Frank's did a real nostalgic twist and actually prepared homemade meals. I could easily look past the greasy floor.

We found this place by checking out Mr. Breakfast when in Tucson for a family reunion. My husband took his mom one day and raved so much that 20 of us made our way there in groups of 2-5 over the next few days!! Great breakfast, friendly, fast service, and a really casual, comfortable atmosphere. Inside and outside seating, always busy (when we we there, weekends or weekdays), and everyone seemed happy. Wish we had something this much fun and this tasty where we live!

Had the Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs for $7.20 this morning. Very good. I love the unpretentiousness of Frank's. The wait staff were friendly and competent.
"Elegant Dining Elsewhere" is their motto and they live up to it. "No Sniveling" says a sign but the coffee is always fresh and sooo good first thing in the morning.

This is the best! A classic. Don't miss the Huevos Rancheros. A sure cure for a hangover.
And at night come back again for a whole new dining experience. When the sun sets Frank's Diner turns into Francisco's Mexican Cafe.
