My family and I have been going to the Merritt since it was Kirby's and they have always had the best fried chicken with mashed potatoes and country gravy. Delicious.

Their pancakes are great, very fluffy and not the least bit rubbery. I don't know where that other reviewer eats better pancakes than these.

Comfortable atmosphere, great wait staff, great food!

Yum!

I just get the biscuits and gravy and sausage when I go here, and they are good. Yeaaa!

it's a dump with soul. You gotta love it, especially if you love Oakland. It's a landmark. Several years ago, you could be eating breakfast there at 3:00 am, with the cops in one booth, the pimps in another, the prostitutes at the third and the Oakland Raiders (no kidding) at the fourth. I've actually been in this scenario! Unfortunately, they've scaled back the late night hours, due to violence (go oakland) But you can still get a GREAT chicken and waffle fix at midnight. The breakfast food is sweet, greasy, and delicious and will most likley knock a few days off your final years. but hey, it's oakland. The lunch and dinner menu bears an uncanny resembelance to a hospital menu. The bakery is where it's at. Huge and out of control. We actually had them provide the pies at our wedding! That's love. They were delicious. All in all the Merrit Bakery is a great spot who's breakfast taste even better at midnight than at 9:00 am.

The breakfast food is good but the lunch and dinner food taste like hospital food.

However, they have one of best bakery's in Oakland. Their stawberry shortcake amongst their other bakery goodies can't be beat!

Not the best breakfast in the world, but their hours are great and the food is better than Denny's. They have fabulous chicken and waffles if that's your thing. Their grits are great, but their pancakes are not. I highly recommend sticking to the waffled and chicken breakfast!
