Just an FYI for everyone out there. Hickory Pit is now closed. Yep, they closed the shades and locked the doors.

Try Country Way instead.

Emil Villa's Hickory Pit which is the original name of the Bay Area chain before some co-owners broke it up into that and 'Original Hickory Pit'. The restaurants have good food and good servers, but minoities beware: I have personal knowledge of W.P. (look it up) activity at the now bankrupt Concord location from the late 80's to the 90's before they closed (propaganda and lower level management indifference & denial when confronted with it). And after having applied for the so-called 'Birthday Club' where they send you a postcard for a free birthday dinner, my Asian Immigrant friend and I whenever we applied together have NEVER been added to the list(s) (either estab). A white senior friend gets her free birthday card on time every year. Can you say CA Department of Fair Housing and Employment?

I had the Bacon Omlette. It was the best omlette I had ever had. They put so much bacon in it that with every bite, it's like eating a full strip of bacon. My wife had the ribs which are to die for. No wonder this place wins best ribs every year. The price was average for a restaurant but it is fair considering the amount of food you get with it. Not that long of a wait to sit down either. Maybe 10-15 minutes at the most.

The food is good, and breakfast isn't covered in grease like some other breakfast places. However, they're pretty expensive and there's no way to order both eggs AND pancakes (my favorite). Also, the coffee is pretty bad, although they refill regularly. The Fremont ValPack generally has a 2 for 1 special. If you use one, the bill gets closer to reality.

The food is pretty good here. The omlettes are the best. The service is also good.
