Sounds like "Airhead" I mean "Airpocket" (See Next Rating) picked the busiest day of the week to go in and play a game of cribbage instead of eating and didn't like the way he was treated. Understand folks that the Totem is packed on the weekends. It is small. Holds about 100 people give or take and yes you may have to wait for a booth or table. At peak times you will be patiently standing and waiting for the next available seat. But, the owner will offer you a cup of coffee while you wait.
"Airhead" never did get his food so he can't comment on the great meal that is served here. You're looking at about $7-8 dollars for breakfast on the average. The service is great if you are going there to eat. The coffee seems to flow just fine.
If you want to play games at a restaurant before you eat, go to Starbucks. But, for my buck the Totem is still the best Breakfast in a 25 mile radius from Everett. Just a couple of right turns off I-5. It's an old place with rather plain decor, but the locals will tell you this is place you go for Breakfast.

Horrible service - the motto of the day at this restaurant. Tried to play a game of cribbage and sip a coffee on a recent Saturday AM & then order a nice couple meals. 30 seconds after getting our menus, we were asked what we want. Immediately the tension in the sweaty owners face was building. You could read his mind so easily... "volume! Nothing more, nothing less" "Server, go ask them again for their meal order!". Then, after 8 minutes, and being asked 3 times to order, we said we would, but would like to finish our game. He said, no, you must order, or you'll need to move to a smaller table. (we were at the regular 2-4 people booth already). We said give us a few & we'd be out their hair. 1 minute later he came again, said 'Sorry, I will buy you your coffees, you need to leave." We were actively scanning our menus at that point. He, the owner, said "no, we will not be serving you at all." So, we got up & walked out, never to go there again. Moral of the story, unless you want fast food, or you are an elderly person, DO NOT EAT AT THE TOTEM. THE OWNER of this Restaurant is entirley too hovering & edgy. No smiles (this time or in the past visits), and he openly used his hands in a gesture to his servers to essentially speed us up. (pointing and giving a hand wave like "move them on to order now!"). Never ever will we go there again, and if you have read this, I hope you won't either. We will be passing the word to all our neighbors, friends, coworkers in the community. Share this review!

The line out the door? There's a reason for that.
Though it could be a little cheaper, the portions at the Totem are huge, and the food marvelously basic. I never have to worry about bordelaise sauce or any stuff like that.
The service is good, stays pleasant when the place is at bonkers full tilt, and, uh, yeah, it's pretty gosh darn awesome. Also the pancakes have an almost perfect lightness to them that just defines food perfection...you can tell the cooking line is really into it.
Now if only the refills were a little more insistent, we'd be perfect.

This place has been open since the 1950's and has been owned by the same family since day one. I've tried several other restaurants over the years and keep on comin' back. The bacon is thick and crispy, the tater's are plentiful and flavorful. They have a nice farmers breakfast that would fill a horse....Or a senior breakfast for the lighter eaters and everything in between. It's real clean inside (No Smoking) and the service is supreme. Get there early on the weekends 'cause it's usually packed.
