I had a pretty pleasing breakfast at the Musso & Frank Grill. I ordered the Flannel Cakes ($5.75) – very thin crepe-esque hotcakes cooked to a perfect golden brown. The cakes were tasty with maple syrup, but the thing that really made them come alive was a dab of their homemade whipped cream. Now here’s the trick… the flannel cakes don’t come with whipped cream, so order the “Pot of Chocolate” which is crazy talk for hot chocolate. That comes with lots of whipped cream.

The chick I was with had a Swiss cheese omelet topped ($7.00) with fresh tomatoes. I tried a bite and was impressed with that too.

The atmosphere at Musso & Frank is decidedly old-School. Most of the servers are older and speak with European accents. The restaurant opened in 1919. You can almost feel the ghosts of Hollywood Past as you take in the classic wood décor.

Be warned: Musso & Franks doesn’t open until 10:00 and they are closed on Sundays and Mondays.

Overall, I give the Musso & Frank Grill a big fat thumbs-up.
