They have a delightful egg and polenta breakfast with thick sliced toast tips.
They also have a good capuccino.
Service is inconsistent.

I just had breakfast at Cafe Verona and it was very good. I was entised to come in because of a sign out front that read "Breakfast And Lunch With Love".
I had the Frittata Verona - an open faced omelet with roasted red pepper, zucchini, eggplant, mozzarella cheese and turkey sausage. It was a large serving and it was tasty. It took a little sprinkle of salt to bring the dish to life. The turkey sausage was particularly good. You couldn't really make out the taste of eggplant among the other flavors, but that was fine with me. The other ingredients worked well together.
As for service, this is one of the few place in L.A. where the service may have been too good. Our waiter never seemed to be more than five feet away. At one point, I dropped my fork on the ground. Before I could bend up from retrieving it, another waiter appeared with a clean fork.
The prices are a little steep. My frittata cost $9.50. But for a solid breakfast experience, with great service and quality chow... it didn't seem to hurt too bad paying a few more dollars than I'm used to.
Keep up the good work Cafe Verona.

I was served the Rosetta Verona . It consisted of two over toasted pieces of bread and little else . One lonely piece of prociutto for the entire sandwich . $10 for toast is a bit much even for Los Angeles . I will not eat here again . You are forewarned .

I moved in across the street from this place in 2000, and at the time it was nothing more than an unsightly cement patch on the corner that served tasty coffee (and nothing else). Over the next 2 years, I watched the chef/owner (Celestino) remake the tiny property himself -- hauling & installing patio stones, bushes and flowers, and even small fountains to try to camouflage the ceaseless noise of LaBrea. And he installed a little open kitchen. I'm happy to say I was one of his first customers when he began serving food, and since then I have NEVER had a disappointing meal at Cafe Verona. It is the only breakfast place in LA where I am a 'regular,' and it serves what is definitely THE BEST iced latte I have ever had. (Only breakfast & lunch are served.) I can tell each time I go that I am not the only "regular" there, and that is almost always a testament to an excellent restaurant. As his name suggests, Celestino is Italian, and his menu reflects Mediterranean/European influence -- you won't find pancakes, but you'll find incredibly tasty and unusual French toast, as well as an array of frittatas (3-egg size), all of which are accompanied by a small side of sweet potato/white potato mash and fresh fruit. There are several other breakfast items, but I'd say frittatas are the house specialty. The service has always been excellent, warm and friendly, and the menu is quite reasonably priced -- breakfast dishes are around $7-$9. Dress is casual, but I classified it as a "classy joint" because it's not diner cuisine. I take all of my friends & family here when they're in town!
