I love this place! Try the Macadamia Nut Pancakes with some portugese sausage! ummmhhmm! :)

The diner is cute. It is a new or remodeled version. The owner is a NFL football lover and the decor is of some really cool collectalbe items. The wait is soooo long about an hour and the wait for food about half an hour. The food is OK and the portions are medium sized. Now the mac nut sauce is the bomb and that is the only reason why I would go there again. It looks to me like the owner is making out pretty good. Congrats to him.

This dive is dirty, the staff's nasty and the food's for all the mento momona nui's who have kala to burn. Mac syrup's really nothing, you can get that same stuff off the shelf.

Why would anyone waste their $ and get dissed at the same time?

there food is amazing and even though the waitress/hostess' could use some classes they were very generous and they are also a family bussiness so i dont expect major experience there

Geez "JoeysGURL" - were you raised in a ditch? Sounds like it! Wash your mouth out with soap already, and try be nice, eh!

I'm local and agree, the mac nut sauce is awesome, HOWEVER, the service is here IS horrible! So I go a few times a year, maybe. If the service were as good as their pancakes, I'd be there every week!

By the way, I'm guessing that the sauce is Mac Nut ice cream which has been allowed to melt, then warmed up just a little before serving. Perhaps with a little whipped cream thrown in to give it that light consistency. Worth a try to avoid the service!

I have to agree with a few of the past reviews... The mac nut sauce is awesome but the service is terrible. It's not just about the wait - they try to take care of that the best way they know how by taking your order on the front stoop (Odd, yes. Helpful... sometimes). But if you expect your experience once inside to be pleasant, you'll be disappointed. Just phone in, (they'll have your order ready in ten to 15 minutes) and take your yummy pancakes to your house or the beach.

Fantastic mac nut sauce on the pancakes - I try to always have breakfast here when I'm on Oahu. I've been trying to find a comparable recipe that I can make at home, and I think I've found one:

c. macadamia nuts
1 T. butter
2 T. flour
1 c. whole milk
c. cream
3 T. sugar
tsp. kosher salt
2" vanilla bean, sliced lengthwise and seeds scraped out - or 2 TSP vanilla extract
3/4 tsp. lemon juice

Process the macadamia nuts in a food processor until finely ground. Spoon the nuts into a medium saucepan and fry over medium high heat for 5 min or until fragrant. Lower heat to medium and add the butter, stirring until melted. Stir in flour and cook 1 min. Slowly pour in milk and cream, constantly whisking the whole time. Scrape the seeds out of both vanilla pod halves. Add sugar, salt, vanilla seeds, and vanilla pod to the pan. Cook 5 min or until thickened, stirring constantly. Stir in lemon juice. Pour sauce through a fine strainer into a serving dish. Serve warm.

The food is great especially the macadamia nut pancakes, actually just the sauce. If I could find the recipe on the internet I would save myself the trip. I service is the worst the world has ever known, they should send their waitress/hostess to a school to teach them about service. This is compiled from the dozens of times I have been there. If you aint early you are going to wait between 15 minutes to 2 hours speaking from multiple experiences. I would recommend calling in and doing a take out. I have asked the waitresses multiple times for more juice/coffee/water and by the time I get it I have finished my meal and ready to pay. Don't get me wrong I still go there for the pancakes, I guess I always hope the service gets better, boy was I wrong. I am a local and I have been going there since 2002. Sorry if this discourages anyone but the truth needs to be told to others before they get there.
