It has been one year since the new owners took the reigns at the Gateway. There is nothing to say but good things. The food quality and consistency is amazing. The freshness is there on your plate.

The place is so much cleaner and the attention is to the food business..not selling lottery tickets and other garbage. A restaurant sells food...good, hot, and plentiful...at a reasonable price. And this "new" Gateway does all of that.

They are also marketing the private back room for breakfast meetings.....so much better than a bagel or donut at a conference table

I am a long time Albany resident and a 20 year patron of the Gateway Diner. I had moved out of the area for 3 years and returned about 3 months ago... I was very sorry to hear of the death of the owner of Gateway Diner. We looked forward to seeing him at the back of the diner and he always took the time to stop by and say hi. My first visit back to the diner was very disappointing. There were very few familiar faces and that home town feeling was no longer. The staff seemed on edge and not very friendly. We got our food. It was good but I can get good food in a lot of places. The lotto I used to enjoy was also missing. With so many places to go the Gateway's new owners should take a lesson from the old ones. What's not broke shouldn't be messed with! I miss the old Gateway's atmosphere and friendliness. The staff was second to none! They made everyone feel so welcome. I'll be waiting... I love the old Gateway Diner!

Bravo to the "NEW" Gateway Diner. The new owners have really turned the place around. The food has gone from "diner" to delightful. There is a excellent variety, and some really well priced "all included" breakfast items.

Diners have the reputation of BREAKFAST ALL DAY, and the Gateway breakfast is as good at 4 pm as it is a 4 am.

If you haven't been there since the new owners have taken over... check it out. You will not be disappointed.

Against my better judgment after reading these reviews, I decided to join several of my friends at the Gateway for an after summer break get together. I shared my concerns with my roommate and a mutual friend and discussed the reviews I had encountered on this site. Other mutual friends insisted we met there. They said they frequently go there, especially on weekend overnights and said they have never had the experience these people had had. I'm glad I listened to them and not the reviews posted here. The food and service was great and the prices are very reasonable...and my favorite...breakfast all day!!!

Basic problem here is that the management is too busy playing games and screwing around, that the don't realize when their servers are getting backed up and overwhelmed.

So the waitresses and waiters take the blame, when it's really the fault of the owners for not making sure the managers are doing their job SUPPORTING the waitstaff.

When i was at the Gateway i had a great meal. The coffee was hot and my eggs were cooked just the way i wanted them. Jimmy the manager was very nice and made sure my breakfast was great. I will tell everyone who goes to Albany to stop by the Gateway

Good breakfast, but a bit pricey. They always have a big stack of really good cookies by the cash register to take when you leave.
