The oldest cafe in Memphis (founded in 1919), and still going strong under the ownership of the original family (now in its third generation). Basically, it's a solid, '50s style diner; you aren't coming here for culinary brilliance, but the food is good and the service usually very good at the time I go (usually 7-7:30 AM on weekends). I usually have the "Create Your Own Omelet"; also good are the "Eggs Redneck" (Biscuits and Sausage smothered in Gravy with Eggs and Hash Browns) and the sweet potato pancakes. Located on the southeast corner of South Main Street and G.W. Patterson Ave. catty-corner from Memphis landmark Earnestine & Hazel's in the midst of the South Main Arts District, it's a great place to begin a morning of exploring the SMAD. Also within walking distance of the Memphis Farmers Market (I often have breakfast at the Arcade before doing my weekly shopping at the MFM).

Definitely a tourist trap. If you are a local, try going during the week instead of the weekend. When they are slammed, the service can be sketchy. When less busy though, the service is fantastic and the food is pretty darn good too!

The place itself is quite unique. The food is good for the most part. The service is a bit on the slow side [even when they aren't busy]. Their version of french toast is deep fried [meaning very greasy]. They should say that on the menu. You definitely get the portions you pay for. Love the location because we love downtown Memphis.

Service is great. Foods pretty good, but very greasy. Eggs almost always too greasy. Pancakes are great, bacon, sasuage and grits are all amazing.

The place itself is historic and really neat. It's a must do Saturday breakfast in downtown Memphis.
