Too much hype for food that looks good but really is kind of ordinary. I arrived on a Saturday morning at 7:25 with opening time of 7:30. I was number 20 or so in line. When I got to the hostess she was understandably resistant to giving me one of the remaining 4 tops but the next person was also a party of one so we shared the table. The coffee was plentiful but very ordinary. Not coffeehouse stuff. I ordered an egg scramble involving pulled pork and chile spices. The spices were absent and all I tasted was unseasoned pulled pork. The dish was served with tortillas that were tasteless and a bit stale. My table mate was more favorable to his dish involving fennel sausage but I question his judgment given he was a skinny Brit! Awesome guy though! Portions were large and the price was fair. I'd go back and try something different but not if the wait time was significant.

A great breakfast treat, well worth standing in line. I had counter seat and view of grille. Everthing fantastically fresh. The specials are mind boggling. Three special boards, two for breakfast and one for fresh baked pastry. I loved the meal and if i didn't live across the country would be a regular.

I couldnt read the specials menu board cuz there was so many items squeezed onto the board and my eyesight is bad, so I ordered what I thought was a basic "Southwestern omelete". It came with tortillas and country potatoes. When my plate came it looked pretty ordinary, but oh my god! It was wonderfully delicious. I have never had breakfast so good! The omelet had alot flavor but not overly so. It was like comfort food. The potatoes looked like your basic good breakfast potatoes, but there was some herbs and spices that gave it this extra something flavor. I've never had breakfast potatoes this good. If you ever go to Doties True Blue Cafe and the wait is like 2 hrs., I would definitely wait cuz its worth waiting for. Oh and the coffee was as good as it gets.

After being disappointed at the first place I'd gone to for breakfast while visiting SF, I discovered Dotties and gave it a try. It kept me coming back each morning for the remainder of my trip.

I tried something different every day; my favorites were the usual for me: omelets and the like, which were hardly just "the usual" here. The rosemary-lamb sausage, roasted garlic, tomato, spinach, and goat cheese omelette served with buttermilk-dill toast (baked on the premises) and homefried potatoes, as one example, was amazing.

The day of my flight home, I came here as early as I could to get one more breakfast in. They opened at 7:30 on Saturday, and I arrived at 7:20; there was already a line of nearly a dozen people out front. It's *that* good.

Several years ago the doorman at our hotel recommended Dottie's and there just isn't any place else to compare. My husband and I both decided that this would be the place to have breakfast whenever we are in "The City". I've never had better sausage anyplace to this day. Can't wait until we're in San Francisco again . . .

I went here a few years back and still think of it as the best breakfast I've ever had.

I think I got something called, "Something for the road" or the like...

Had about 3 plates of food!!! (Which is a whole days nosh for an Englishman ;) )

Would love to go back.

Kirk, Amsterdam.

Ignore the menu and pick something from the specials board. All the good stuff is there. The black bean cakes were fantastic. My SO had the cornmeal blueberry pancakes which were also fabulous.

The service staff was very attentive which was amazing as they were lined up with a full house 20 minutes before they opened - on a THURSDAY.

I can't believe no one has listed this restaurant yet. The line out the door should tell you something. Everything is home made, pastries, breads etc. It's open early morning until about 2:00 p.m. Don't let the long line turn you away. Small place, but extemely efficient. We go every October to San Francisco and eat every day at Dottie's for breakfast. We aren't hungry again until dinnertime. Blackboard menu lists daily specials. The blueberry coffecake was served with a creme anglaise sauce, enough for four people. I can't wait until October!
