A great place to eat with items to fit any budget. The waitresses are a freindly and hard working group, and the the service is fast. We eat there often for lunch, dinner and breakfast, and will continue to do so because they have great food, great service and great prices. Oh..and we are not "Blue Hairs" either. In fact most days we are there, there are few "Blue Hairs", rather the dining area is filled with families ranging in age from 2-90. Simply a great place to eat!

Mel's is very solid with very good food. Service is friendly and quick. I've been there a dozen times or so in the past year and it has been a great experience every time. Kids love it, too.

I think we need a new classification for Mel's. Mr.Breakfast should add the "Blue-hair chowdown" category for Mel's. The place is crawling with fixed income denizens from all over Jefferson City nearly every weeknight. My husband and I surmised that this must be attributed in part to the super cheap deals and the very old school menu. They serve breakfast all day, every day. The waitresses are super-fast and seem to know all of the old codgers by name, saying "Good-bye Mr. so-and-so" as the old guys wander out of the restaurant. The tables all have laminated ads for local businesses on top. The weary traveler in need of a new exhaust system doesn't even need to consult the yellow pages. Red vinyl booths make up most of the seating. The walls are decorated with autographed photos of little-known/has-been actors and actresses. The menu includes open-faced roast beef some nights and always chicken-fried steak and mashed potatoes with gravy (yum yum!). Their pies leave a little to be desired (don't order the Boston Cream pie!), but you probably won't be able to force dessert down after one of their hearty fried chicken meals anyway.
