Way too expensive for what it is. You have to refill your own coffee, which wouldn't be a problem, but the filler is always empty.
The same for if you want water. There is only one waitress who can't fulfill her duties when it gets too busy, I take that as the owner's fault because he just sits there on his computer and watches his employees flustered.

Great food, creative and simple menu, live music, nice touch! Nice old time atmosphere, friendly staff and very reasonable prices. I would go back.

The food has a creative twist to traditional favorites like biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage patty's and some real chunks of sausage in the gravy. The biscuits were flakey and the eggs were made to order. The prices are not any more than any other restaurant in the area and far lower than any place in the French Quarter. The staff is friendly and it feels comfortable and very much like an old New Orleans kinda place. I have been there many times and will go there again. I read the previous reviews and I am surprised. I think the place looks pretty clean and well kept . Slammed, if anything from being too busy. I can see where there needed wiping down tables and chairs, but that is to be expected when there is standing room only. I have been to the Camelia Grill too. The food is not any better, their menu is more expensive and they burn their omelets. That place went way down hill since they sold out to middle easterners. But they have nice waiters. Overall, with the comfort food as good as it is at Oak Street, the Community Coffee served strong and hot and the live music going so early in the day, I think its a good place and a good value.

This place seems to get a lot of attention, so I went there to try it out, very disappointed. The food was over priced, and not very good. They use pre-cooked bacon, and biscuits out of a bag, not very homemade, like their web-site indicated, “home cooked meals”, wonder what else is just out of the box? I think if you are a college kid, with a hang-over and need a very greasy breakfast this might be the place for you, or just go to the Camellia Grill, were it would be cheaper, and much better food. If you want a nice breakfast with good food reasonably priced, there are many great places in New Orleans to eat, and this is not one of them. The place had a funny smell to it, and the tables were greasy, well thinking about it, the whole place needed a good cleaning.

They make real hollandaise sauce. Can you believe it? I had the pancake platter and my friend had Eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were done right with vinegar and the plate looked real nice like at a fancy restaurant. It came with choice of grits or smothered potatoes. I opted for the taters and was glad. The pancakes had a blend of seasoning like cinnamon and nutmeg or something. A nice touch from the plain old flat pancakes you get everywhere else. I like the old fotos on the wall. The lunch counter is a nice touch too. I also liked the real piano music.

The place is clean and reminds me of a donut shop or cafe from before the fast food invasion. There is a wide selection of donuts displayed in vintage display cases and lots of old neighbor hood pictures on the wall. The menu covered most of the traditional egg dishes, pancakes and omelettes. Of course, grits are a Southern favorite but the smothered potatoes (home fries) are to die for! The Sante Fe omelette had a delicate blend of spices, a hint of cumin and chili which complemented the carmelized onions and medley of red, yellow and green sliced peppers. The coffee is from Community, a popular roaster in Louisiana. While it's a meduim roasted bean ground for each pot on site, dont expect to see your spoon in the bottom of your cup. Folks in New Orleans like their coffee strong. The place has nice vinyl table clothes that make it look on the upscale side, however there is counter service only and they do not normally wait tables. This is not so bad because the prices are very reasonable. This was a good experience for me and my friend and we both agree that we would go back. Two thumbs up!
