I can't see how anyone could be unhappy with this restaurant. The service was fast, friendly and accomidating. I SWITCH AND SUBSITUTE all the time. no problem. you can always tell a good restaurant by the length of the line waiting to be seated, and the fact the place is full until closing. I eat out alot and this is definitly a favorite.

In town visiting my daughter and son-in-law. Based on the reviews, Morning Thunder is the best place for breakfast in Chico. Time for a reality check...
THE GOOD
Quaint '50's style diner atmosphere. Decent variety on the menu. Offer two types of coffee--regular and French Roast.
THE BAD
We were greeted by a server who knelt down to take our drink order—one coffee, three small OJ’s. She stands up, gets this weird expression on her face and says she forgot our order. It was on omen of what was to follow. No choice of coffee was offered. We learned that they had an option at the end of the meal when a refill was finally offered. Service was poor and disorganized. The OJ was pricey but made from concentrate. A fruit bowl was attractively represented but the melon beneath the sliced banana was hard and unripe. The Huevos Rancheros was overloaded with bland tasting rice. It was a lot of food but lacked any character. The salsa served over the eggs was watery which settled around the rim of the entire plate.
THE UGLY
The omelet was on par with Denny’s. Strike that. That’s not even fair to Denny’s. It was thin, dry, and overcooked. To make matters worse, they forgot the cheese. Once we were able to finally wave over a server, he returned it to the kitchen, cheese was added, heated under the salamander, and returned. Now the dry omelet had become petrified.
Three people. $40. One omelet, huevos rancheros, and fruit bowl. There are much better options in Chico. Stay clear of this one.

A great place to eat if you want your breakfast to last the whole day. Try one of their "egglets", a bagel sandwich that are made with different items.

Morning Thunder is a Chico tradition... a tradition my parents insisted on each time they came to visit me up at college, and even now! Huge portions, fabulous potatoes, gigantic omelets, great bagel sandwhiches (TC Egg being my personal favorite) and don't ever pass up the chance to have their muffins which change daily, but are baked fresh everyday. Vegetarian dishes are available. Very long wait on the weekends, moderate wait during the week (but there are chairs available outside). Small joint, not sure how large of a party they can accomodate. Very friendly staff. Neat artwork on the walls for sale also.
Award Nomination: Best Breakfast Ever
