Typical Minnesota fare. Mediocre food at best, ugly waitresses. I suppose if you've never learned how to cook your own eggs or never been out of Minnesota, you might think it's pretty decent.

But, on a national scale, based on the price and quality of the food, it sucks. I guess compared to the other places in Minnesota, it's pretty good, which is to say that it sucks, like 99% of the rest of the places in Minnesota like it.

If you're looking for an old school flavor in Uptown, try Sunnyside. The place has large plastic covers over the tables, some kitschy country decor and pastel interior. The waffles and French toast are unique, I recommend them. Refills were plenty, and service was attentive, but not hovering. Parking can be a hassle, but during the weekdays it was not a problem. Full meals run standard at about $6-9, but are quite filling.

If you're looking for ambiance, go elsewhere. However, if you're looking for stuffed waffles or french toast (or both), this is your place. The omelets are good too, and so is the coffee.

Parking is a pain, but that comes with the territory. There's plenty of seating, but you may have to wait on the weekend. The place is comfortable and laid back, but the wait staff is friendly and close at hand.

Prices are good, however, they do not take credit cards or checks, so have cash on hand or you'll be washing dishes.

Next to Al's Breakfast, this is one of my favorite breakfast joints. I don't think that I have ever had to wait more than a couple of minutes for a table, even on the weekends. The food is really good and it's consistent time and time again. The french toast is the best I have ever had. I never order french toast because I typically do not like it, but the wife does so I always try her FT when we go out. This is the best. Omelets are tasty and the american fries touch my heart. Your coffee cup is never empty, and the waitstaff is courteous and quick. Plus, they have some really good specials, real unique items.
