I have gone to Abe's for years since it was such a cliche'. In college we would go on the late night shift after the bar but we all knew you had to be pretty drunk to stomach the food. I don't know much about the day shift but if you walk in there on the night shift you should expect the worst. The dining area is always filthy. The staff at night are rude and unhelpful often making you wait. The food is just as bad as you would expect. I judge a coney island by their gyros and Abe's uses some very low grade meat that comes in thin strips out of a package rather than hunks cut off a rotating spit. I assume the day staff are nicer but since it has just gotten worse over the years I would stay away from Abe's.

I always carry out because I really don't like the atmosphere of the place, but the food is good. If you like greasy diner food. You get more food then you can possibly eat for not a lot of money. Plus, you can get breakfast at any time of the day (which I love).

Greasy spoon extraordinaire. The waitresses will call you "hon," and I don't recommend looking too closely at the floor or under the table, but the comfort food you'll get for your lack of discrimination makes it well worth the stop. The hippie hash is to die for, if you're into that kind of thing (hash browns topped with feta cheese and various grilled veggies). Cheap eats, and, hey, Bill Clinton ate there once in the '90s. Small booths - groups over 4 will have to split up.

Clientele can be a little scary (carry-out recommended), but if you want breakfast at 2 am in Ypsi, Abe's is the place. You can debate who had Hippie Hash first, Abe's or Fleetwood Diner in A2, but their mountainous creation is a sight to behold. Best greasy Home Fries in Washtenaw County!
